The Ministry of Education held the technical stakeholder consultation at Meeruma Events in collaboration with UNICEF, today. The consultation was inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu.

The main objective of this consultation is to identify priority transformative actions for changing the current conditions and bottlenecks that need to go into the program document for the Systems Transformation Grant and System Capacity Grant. In the consultation, technical and political representation from the departments, divisions, and sections of the Ministry was present, along with representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Labor and Skills Development, and teacher training institutes.

In his speech, the minister reiterated the importance of ensuring that the funds received through donor agencies are used to their fullest efficiency so that the intended outcomes and results are achieved. UNICEF Deputy Representative, Mr. Isy Faingold, spoke about the close collaboration between the Ministry and UNICEF and assured the Ministry that UNICEF will always remain steadfast in its collaboration with the government of the Maldives to work towards the common agenda of providing quality education to the children of the Maldives.

The System Transformation Grant and System Capacity Grant, along with the Multiplier Grant, were given to the Maldives by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), of which the Maldives has been a partner country since 2019. The Global Partnership for Education is a global effort devoted to getting all children in school to receive quality education. The GPE also helps country partners develop and implement sound education plans to transform education.

The Learning Advancement and Measurement Project (LAMP), worth USD 3.5 million, is financed by GPE and will close mid-next year. This project focuses on foundational literacy and numeracy in schools. The new funding from GPE amounts to USD 9.5 million in total.
